HPC Linux Administrator
$95-$140K
Be responsible for managing and maintaining
the hardware and software used for a distributed
systems environment. Technology responsibilities
will include Hardware platforms, Linux OS, Scheduling
Software, NAS/File Systems, and Disk Sub Systems.
You will serve as the main point of contact
for the Analysts utilizing the grid. Work closely
with other IT teams including the Server Admin
and Networking teams to ensure the grid meets
the demands of the community. The role will
combine day-to-day support with ongoing engineering
and planning of the Grid environment as it evolves.
Responsibilities:
-Serve as main point of contact ensuring the
grid meets the demands of the trading community.
-Assist in designing and implementing high performance
file storage systems.
-Manage and support HPC scheduling software
such as Condor, Maui, or Sun Grid Engine.
-Implement and support performance monitoring
and fault monitoring systems.
-Monitor systems and storage performance, up
to and including network components.
-Compile, package, install and upgrade software
and operating system components.
-Create scripts and use tools to automate frequently
performed tasks.
-Implement and support SAN, NAS and direct-attached
storage systems.
-Develop, improve, document and promote standard
operating procedures.
-Interact directly with traders, Quants and
other IT staff to troubleshoot problems and
issues.
-Available to work nights and weekends as required.
Qualifications:
-Thorough understanding of IP networking concepts.
-Working knowledge of cluster interconnect technology
(i.e. Infiniband).
-Expert knowledge of high performance file systems
and storage technologies such as Lustre, Ibrix
or GPFS.
-Extensive knowledge of Open Source clustering
tools: Condor, Torque/Maui, Ganglia, MPI and
PBSPro.
-Solid scripting skills in Shell, Perl, Python
and/or Ruby.
-Experience with system (Zenoss, Nagios) and
log (Splunk, syslog-ng) monitoring/analysis
tools.
-Experience with Java and/or C++ is a plus.
-Excellent communication and documentation skills.
-Ability to work well as part of a team in a
fast-paced environment.
-Ability to communicate effectively with people
of varying technical abilities.
-Ability to work with highly confidential materials.
-Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science
or Engineering, or a combination of education
and work experience equivalent.
-Minimum of 6 years administering Linux server
systems.
-Prior experience in a clustered environment.
-Dell, HP/Compaq, Sun or IBM x86 server hardware
experience.
