AIX Systems Engineer Sr
Up to $97K
AIX skills required.
Responsibilities:
-Develop and install cost effective, operationally
supportable solutions that meet complex customer
requirements and SLAs.
-Maintain deep technical knowledge of multiple
technologies within a customer’s environment.
-Provide direct operational support of largest
managed services customers, maintaining ownership
and a deep technical knowledge.
-Deliver end of the road support for complex
environments.
-Provide clear technical documentation and written
ISO9001 procedures to ensure other team members
can assist in monitoring, troubleshooting and
changing complex customer environments.
-Responsible for direct customer communication,
working closely with other technical teams and
customer service teams.
-Build and maintain relationships with key customer’s
technical staff members and with internal stakeholders
from customer service and field operations.
-Provide technical assistance to all internal/external
customers during environment outages.
-Have a familiarity environment resources being
utilized by customers. Use this information
to assist in resolving environment issues or
trouble shooting impairments.
-Provide assistance/training and leadership
to other engineers.
-Perform weekly and monthly maintenance activity
when required.
-Perform after-hours support as needed.
-Learn automated resource functions and terminology.
-Learn alert management platforms, functions,
and terminology.
-Learn related product offerings.
-Become proficient with the latest OS technologies.
-Provide assistance/training to other engineers
Qualifications:
-College Degree preferred but will consider
applicants with equivalent work-related experience
with a minimum educational requirement of a
H.S. Diploma or GED equivalent.
-Seven to Ten years industry experience in a
UNIX systems operations management or systems
engineering role.
-AIX administration with versions 5.2 to 6.1.
-HMC and Logical Partitions.
-AIX clustering HACMP and GPFS
-Solaris, Red Hat/Linux, and/or HP-UX administration
in a production environment
-Clustering and file systems experience with
some of the following: SUN clusters, OCFS, GFS,
VXFS and/or Veritas Cluster Server
-Strong Scripting skills required. Must be able
to create scalable management solutions for
an Enterprise level hosting service (1000+ hosts
under management)
-Sound understanding of hardware fundamentals.
Able to make specific hardware recommendations
based on I/O bound, memory bound, or processor
bound applications
-Able to troubleshoot and provide resolution
for servers with performance issues
-Extensive problem-solving skills for debugging
OS, application, and server related network
issues
-Experience supporting BEA Weblogic or similar
middleware platform
-Enterprise level storage (Array/SAN) and tape
backup platforms
-OS tuning and troubleshooting with DBA team
for Oracle based applications
-Able to create end to end system monitoring
and reporting solutions using performance monitor,
SNMP and or by integrating third party products
-Extensive knowledge of data communication concepts
and technologies is required
-Strong customer service and communications
skills (written and oral) are required
-Strong problem isolation and resolutions skills
required
-Must have the ability to lead and direct vendors
to assist them in their efforts
-Strong interpersonal skills are a requirement
-Adaptable and willing to learn new technologies
-Excellent communications skills (written and
oral) are required
-Strong time management and organizational skill
are required
-Must have the ability to effectively work in
a team environment, as well as independently
Preferred Requirements:
-College degree in Computer Science, MIS or
equivalent experience.
-Certification(s) and/or experience in a production
environment with of the major OS areas –
Solaris, Linux, HP-UX, and/or AIX. Veritas products:
Veritas Clustering Service, and Veritas File
System.
-Experience as a Microsoft Windows administrator
and/or ESX would be beneficial.
